Munnar to Top Station distance

Located at about 34 km from Munnar, Top Station is the highest point on the Munnar-Kodaikanal route. It takes about one hour to travel from Munnar to Top Station.

This beautiful spot is both in Tamil Nadu’s Theni District and Kerala’s Idukki District. So, tourists flock the spot from either state. It is close to the Pampadum Shola National Park near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border.

How to reach Top Station in Munnar

The nearest airports are at Madurai at 140 km and Kochi at 190 km. The nearest railway stations are Theni railway station, 60 km away, and Changancherry railway station, 93 km away.

To arrive by bus, you must first reach Munnar. There are buses from Kochi to Munnar (145 km). There are a good number of buses plying between Munnar and Top Station, but you might consider hiring a jeep for more convenience.

Top Station, Munnar is at an altitude of 1700 meters above sea level. August-November and January- May are the best seasons to visit Top Station.

Being a top mountain on the Western Ghats, Top Station in Munnar offers panoramic views of the Western Ghats and Theni District. Though it is mostly blanked by mist, on a clear day, you can get breathtaking views. It is famous for its Neelakurinji plants that envelop the area in blue-violet when in full bloom.

Though climate is pleasant round the year, it is better to avoid the June-October period when roads become slippery due to rains.

Top Station Munnar Trekking

There are many trekking routes from Munnar to Kodaikanal – the most scenic route is the one via Top Station. It is a 32 km route via Top Station, Koviloor, Bandharavu Mala and Kilavara, with thick forests for nearly 18 km. The trek begins early morning at Top Station. Trekkers take a jeep ride to the Koviloor village, where there are horses services to carry their luggage. Then, they trek to up the steep Bandharavu hill to get a view of the Kodai villages from the top of the hill. Finally, they reach the Kilavara village, and pass through Poondi, Mannavannur and Poompari to board a Kodai bus.
